I was chatting with a person on myspace about various forms of spells and majick. We of course had to bring up egregores. For those who don't know what an egregore is it is simply put a manufactured spirit. Yes, you can make your own spirit and the practice is not that uncommon.
I have actually manufactured one in my life and the working is difficult, not so much in skill but in presision and energy. The more energy one raises the stronger the egregore. Most people wonder why you would create on in the forst place. The answer is simple as they are a tremendous upgrade from a thought form. Most are familiar with a thought form. You visualize a ball of energy, this may be one that floats in front of you or you may form it between your hands. You see this energy and then program it with a certain funtcion-help me find a job/boyfriend/girlfriend/locate lost watch/ etc. The thought form goes out and does what it is programed to do. However it has only one job it can perform and that is the single job you give it.
Egregores are a different beast all together. They are spirit beings you create for a job that perhaps either requires more thought, requires more time or even more influence and energy. When you create these beings they have an ability to think in relation to the task at hand. If you are looking for an opportunity they can actually go ahead of you and set in motion things to help present that opportunity. They can guard you or your home and in particular they can make their presence known to others if they are strong enough.
There are several ways to create them and things to take into concideration before you do. But, if you want to go ahead with it then do so. After all, if you want something badly enough why not pull out all the stops?

Bottom line is simple. According to scripture witchcraft, the practice of divinations and etc is heretical. People were put to death for those things even in the days of Christ. If you claim to be a so called christian witch what you in reality are is a heretic and an apostate. One path clearly calls for putting matters to the church and to God, while the other path teaches to learn and grow. These two paths are incompatible and not to mention a bit insulting. I personally feel a christain witcdh is neither a very good christain nor is she or he a very good witch, seeing as how the person(s) in question are deliberately and with knowledge practicing acts that goes against the very personages they profess to honor. I could break out with scripture at this point to back it up...but what's would be the point?
Raising energy for the Solitaire practitioner can be a real issue sometimes, especially if the spell is something to make some majors changes in you life or circumstances. It can really wear you out quickly. What are you to do?? I mean you can only put personally so much into it? The answer??? Power boosters. Most of us are very familiar with working with color to enhance our spell work and increase our odds of getting what we want. Some of us are even familiar with using herbal candles and stones, ECT. There are most likely many of us who can actually incorporate all of these elements together. That being said, what else is there to add or do to raise as much energy at one time? Lets face it, some of us are not dancers or drum players, some of us don't sing. Most of us are most likely familiar with chanting and rhyming and we use that too. Here are some all purpose ideas to aid in raising energy. These are things that can be added to your spell work that will serve no other function other than to raise that much more energy. Stones- orange calcite is an awesome stone for raising energy. Energy you place into this stone goes into it, doubles in intensity and then returns to the original sender. During a portion of your spell work you may take one of these stones and begin to raise energy and then send the energy into the spell work it's self. Also this stone is awesome for healing, as it will help keep your physical energy up so that you may fight off an illness easier. Crystals (quartz) these stones can be used for virtually any purpose at all. One thing you may do is to charge them for aid in your work. You can use these stones in place of others stones you may not have. Also, you can charge them to deposit energy into oil or into energized water and make use of those. If you choose you work with them in that manner I do suggest you make only enough for the particular spell you are working on at the time. Oil can get rancid quickly. Herbs- Sage- sage is traditionally used to clear and bless homes. It is wonderful for this purpose but can be used in other ways as well. Sage is one of the herbs I like to use in granting wishes and it works pretty well for this purpose. You can also add sage into what ever insane you are using and onto candles specifically for the purpose of raising energy as well. The reason for this is that is goes a long way toward raising spiritual energy and as a note of caution be very careful if you try and use this for getting unwanted entities out of a place, the energy that is raises is yours, but it can also amplify the energy of the entity as well. My suggestion is this case is finding another herb to avoid this problem. Dragon's Blood-Dragon's blood is notorious for raising energy and protection as well. Most people know it as an aggressive herb or resin. This too can be added to incense candles even anointing yourself and your stones can help a tremendous bit. If you wish you can use some of the dragon's blood for additional protection and then other bits of it for energy raising.
These are just a few quick tips I thought I'd pass along.
Angelite This is a truly remarkable stone indeed. Some of the common uses for angelite is that it balances the physical body with the ethereal network. As well as placing a shield of protection around the environment, which it is placed. You may make an elixir and drink it, which will place a shield around the body as well. Angelite is used in communicating with higher beings as well as angelic beings. It also has the ability to facilitate telepathy and astral projection as well. This telepathy can be with another person, spirit totem or animal, or other beings. It is both a sender as well as a receiver of this form of information. Also, it can promote astrological and mathematical understanding and comprehension. It represents the world and peace through brotherhood and understanding. It also dispels anger renews ones connectedness with universal knowledge and initiates a parting of the impediments during innovative pursuits Can be used in the re-birthing process. Also used in energy transfers in psychic healing angelite provides the linking of the network between the psychic and the infrastructure of the ethereal energy network. Personal experiences with this stone are amazing. I bought one a week ago and asked for clarity in a situation. Every night for a week I did nothing but dream of the subject of this matter. This truly confused and scared me, as it is not normal for me to have dreams of this nature. It took a week to make the connection between the dreams and the stone. So, as a controlled experiment I took it off last night and guess what...no dreams of this subject at all. Moral of the story is be very careful of working with this or any other stone, they will can and will grant what you wish.
For several years now I have heard, whether at public gatherings or reading various articles and books I have noticed there is a certain mentality about the Solitary Witch. Not saying that all people feel this way but a significant portion of what I call coveners do and don't mind expressing it. I remember not long ago at all I was at a local meeting that is solely intended to be a social event put on monthly at one of the local cafes here. There was a first degree, working on her second-degree witch talking about how they needed to get all of these solitaires involved in the community. "There's just too many solitaires" she kept saying over and over, as if that was a bad thing or there was something wrong with it or even as if perhaps the solitaires didn't have a clue. I remember one of my first thoughts being why does she feel threatened by those who do not wish to be ‘involved?' Further listening and asking questions of many who are tradition-trained I have learned there is an overwhelming amount that feels if you aren't trained by a tradition, then you aren't trained. I have heard phrases such as ‘book-dumb witch' used to describe those who learn from books. I could go on about what I have heard. One good friend of mine feels the same even though he is polite about it. There seems to be a sad and significant amount of people who won't or can't accept the solitaire. The plusses of being a solitaire far outweigh the drawbacks. For one, you are able to explore and learn as well as find through your own experience what is correct and true for you. Also you are able to learn at your own pace and explore what you are more interested in. You can explore endless possibilities of thought, theory, and practice in the comfort of your own space. You progress when you are ready to and not a minute before. You initiate and dedicate yourself when you truly know you are ready to. In short you call all the shots. Yes, self initiation is 100% just as valid as one done by a HP! While the learning curve can be very tough to get through, it is well worth it. I remember it took me four or so months before I actually cast my first circle and I was extremely nervous. I had my book in one hand, athame in the other and had memorized as much as I could. The ritual was a success and I was very pleased. It is an experience I will never forget. You see it was very important for me to get it right not because I was trying to pass the grade or was worried about someone critiquing me, but because this was a space I was inviting my Gods and Goddesses into and it had to be right. It was those concerns that pushed me hard and made me aware of just how important this really was. There are drawbacks to practicing alone as well. You cannot raise nearly as much energy by yourself, even with amplifiers such as Dragons' Blood and Orange Calcite, as you can with a group...which leads to another issue.
Within the group or coven they decide ultimately whether or not you can work a spell with them or not. If the veto the idea, which is their right to do, you are on your own anyway. Also you may be very limited to the types of things you can learn and when you can learn them just as if you were in a regular school. Now for some this is probably an appealing thing as it takes you step by step. But there are those out there, me included, that have absolutely no patience for that at all. I want to choose what I learn and when. The result of me being of this particular temperament is this; by the time I came in to the local pagan community I was far better trained then 98% of the traditional, coven going witches. There are exactly two that are trained better than I am, and I do live in a large city. By the time I came on the scene convinced I had learned on my own all I could there really wasn't anyone around that could further me. Why and how did this happen? Well I had the luxury of being exposed in writing to many, many different ideas and concepts. I tried a lot and a lot I discarded. I was able to spend the time not only learning how to use herbs majickally but also on a mundane level, and then make the connection between their physical and spiritual talents and gifts are. You see I looked past the ‘how to use' part of the book and dwelled on it. In being a solitaire you can allow your mind to free associate like that. The only approval you need is that of the Gods you may serve and your own. While for the more social people practicing in a coven is a desirable thing there is nothing at all wrong with those of us who worship alone. We are not less than nor are we Anti social. For some our spirituality is very personal. My roommates are pagan and I do not include them in my rituals. If they have a need and wish to be included in my majick then I of course do that. However, they respect the fact that I practice alone. I actually connect better to the divine then and get more out of it. So, for those out there that swear there is something wrong with a practicing solitaire, rest assured much like the lone wolf we too have our place and our function. We are just as valid. The books are just as valid, and so long as you actually try and apply what they tell you to do you will learn...something.
